To give you some background, a DJ at a local radio station in Sacramento had made the claim that Americans are living in an ignorant bliss and that we really don’t have any missile defense system capable of taking out a nuke. However, after talking to a missile engineer who works for Lockheed Martin at a wedding I attended over the weekend, I had to type him this email rebutting his claim:
I recently attended a wedding over the weekend and was chatting with a guest who worked for Lockheed Martin as a weapons engineer, specifically designing and testing missiles. This prompted me to ask her if America really has a missile defense system in place capable of intercepting nukes (“supposedly this wacky DJ in Sacramento thinks it’s a myth and that most Americans live in ignorant bliss”). The missile engineer assured me that we have one in place and that in her personal testing it has proven successful in 9 out of 9 attempts. I was also joking about how America should develop a super laser that could shoot nukes out of the sky, and she confirmed that there was one actually being developed by another company as we speak (the basic concept is that they are gutting a 747 and fitting the inside with a massive laser capable of intercepting the missile). After going home to do a quick search about this laser ship, I was able to uncover this article on a similar concept: http://www.defensetech.org/archives/003897.html (this laser gunship is intended to take out ground missiles).
I don’t think North Korea, a third world country barely capable of feeding its citizens, poses any threat to America. They know that if they were ever able to successfully attack us, we’d wipe them off the face of the earth in a second. Kim Jong-il just wants other country’s to falsely assume his regime should be taken as a serious threat and America is playing right into his stupid game.
